FARMHOUSE FLOWERS AND PLANTS
Montgomery County, MD

In 1941, Dave Dowling's grandparents purchased a 200-acre farm in Brookeville, MD, just 20 miles from Washington, DC. Fifty years later, Dave started a small cut-flower garden on part of his 11 acres. Today that small cutting garden has grown to 3 acres of cut-flower production, 7 greenhouses totaling over 10,500 sq. ft., and 2,600 sq ft. of high tunnels, all used to meet the demand of local retail florists, Whole Foods and countless farmers' market regulars. Farmhouse Flowers and Plants grows more than 75 varieties of flowers for cutting as well as annual, perennial and herb plants for your garden. Because they grow more than 40,000 stems of lilies each year, Dave and his crew are known as the 'the lily people'. They sell year-round at Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market and at the Annapolis FRESHFARM Market. Farmhouse Flowers can also be found at the Kensington, MD, farmers' market and at the Rockville and Olney farmers markets. Dave uses integrated pest management, an ecologically sensitive farming technique, and loves the challenges of growing so many flower varieties. For more information, visit farmhouseflowers.com.
