Farmland Feast

Cooler air and colorful fall ingredients at our markets signal the slow movement into a new season as well as another, very special and busy time at FRESHFARM Markets. The preparation for our autumn fundraiser, the Farmland Feast on Monday, November 11th at the Ritz Carlton in DC.  This year, the theme is “Expect Something Different.  New Chefs.  Fresh Style.  Same Mission.”

New chefs. Our 2013 chef line-up, each sourcing ingredients from local farmers and producers to create spectacular seasonal dishes, is headed up by Brian McBride of RW Restaurant Group. Formerly of Blue Duck Tavern, Brian is now a Chef Partner with his friend and fellow chef, Robert Wiedmaier of RW Restaurant Group. Frank Ruta (Palena) and Cedric Maupelier (Mintwood Place) are just two of our supremely talented participating chefs. Our Coordinating Sommelier Moez Ben Achour also joins us from RW Restaurant Group. He has assembled a group of local wine experts, bartenders, beermeisters and aperitif creators like none other to provide us with cocktails, local wines and beers to complement the market-driven hors d’oeuvres and three course sit-down dinner. Returning Farmland Feast attendees are already familiar with the tastes of the season served during our cocktail hour. New twists for 2013 include a separate cocktail party-only ticket as well as a local oyster and beer bar for which Brian and the RW Restaurant Group team are already well-known.  As always, ingredients will be sourced from our market farmers.  New this year, we are also showcasing local producers Zoe’s Chocolates, Peregrine Coffee and Don Ciccio & Figlio liqueur during our dessert course.

Fresh style.  Our farm-centric and artisanal auctions are carefully curated to pay homage to our market farmers and producers, artisans from across the country, our supportive business partners and farm-to-table restaurants from every corner. They literally shout out our ongoing commitment to our mission of running farmers markets and educational programs, which has set the auction apart from a typical auction for many years.  We know that everyone who participates, whether donor, guest or winner, benefits.

This year’s auctions will include: new options to bid on in our silent auction from innovative market bags to unique farm experiences to tasting dinners; a new cocktail party live auction with a bottle of the sought after 20-year Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and a sherry experience from Derek Brown’s Mockingbird Hill. Our much-loved dinner live auction will be filled with travel experiences and surprises created especially for our FRESHFARM Markets Farmland Feast family.  We are especially delighted to be including a Tuscan villa stay, a week at Rancho La Puerta, an oyster experience in Seattle and an overnight barn stay on the farm of Ann Marie Gardner, the editor of our national media sponsor Modern Farmer, the global multi-channel media brand devoted to the people, policy, issues, animals, plants and technology of contemporary farming and food.  Check out our current auction list here.

Same mission. In the months leading up to the Farmland Feast, and during this one special evening, we aim high. As a nonprofit organization, we charge ourselves to shine the fundraising light in innovative ways. While feasting on great food and wine we want you and our community to be energized and surprised at why providing healthy, fresh and local food makes a difference. We are welcoming Steve Badt from Miriam’s Kitchen on stage this year to speak to why gleaning (farmers and producers donating fresh food at the end of every market to those area neighbors who need it most) is a critical part of what we do. We know that annual fundraisers are an integral part of the Washington area philanthropic calendar.  Make our event a continuing part of yours.
